my first business was a total failure. Here's why you need a copywriter for success.
When I started my first business, I made a lot of mistakes. But the worst mistake was not working with a refined copywriter. I needed someone who could follow marketing trends, create sustainable business strategies, and turn cold leads into loving clients.
I needed a copywriter so I could focus on what I loved to do. And not worry about the stress of marketing myself.
Don’t be a failure like me. Learn from my mistakes!
Work with a copywriter (like me!) so you can focus on what you do best: helping people thrive.
Yep, you read that right. My very first business venture was a flop. Total utter failure. Not because I didn’t have a sound idea. Oh no, this idea was solid. But because I didn’t have the skill set to execute it properly. If only I knew then what I know now!
If you didn’t know, I have a background in yoga. A dedicated student turned teacher material. I know I’m sort of a big deal. 😉
Crazy considering I hated public speaking all my life and now work behind a screen, but love a little bit of contrast, right?
Yoga became a huge part of my life. I finally found a way to move my body that I enjoyed and Eastern philosophy enthralled me. So naturally, I wanted to share my yoga dreams with the world. (And make some money while working at home).
What can I say, I’ve wanted to join the WFH bandwagon since 2020, too.
I had a solid idea. I would be a yoga coach, working with people 1:1.
I’d write and record individual yoga classes specially tailored to you. I’d even include personalized meditations – something that’s hard to get in a classroom setting. I’d zoom with people or curate the recordings for people to do on their own time; Sending clients on their merry way to zenful yogic peace.
I was stoked with my idea. I mean, who was offering 1:1 yoga consulting that was affordable and specially curated to your needs? It’s certainly not as common as attending a yoga class at your studio down the street. Plus, that’s the way yoga was originally taught: 1:1 student to teacher.
And I had enough passion for 10 people combined because, at the root of it all, I wanted to help people thrive. I’ve seen yoga distorted from its origins and overlooked as an avenue to reach true health and well-being. And I yearned for an avenue to put my good intentions to work.
But I barely got off the ground.
I think I posted about my offerings 5 times on Instagram and got insecure. Because I didn’t know what I was doing, I abandoned the idea altogether. I lacked a marketing skillset to launch me to the stars.
Suddenly all that passion felt like a very far away planet that I had no way of travelling to.
Sound familiar?
You get all jazzed by a new idea, go full throttle, even buying all the needed accessories to play the part. Then the tires skid to a stop as you brush up against resistance. You don’t know how to sell this really awesome thing you love and poured your soul into.
Good intentions gone to sh*t.
It’s new territory and you feel like a stranger on your own land. Head in your hands, you start screaming,
“HOW DO I MARKET MYSELF???”
The truth is, it’s hard to grow. It takes courage to become the new version you want to be. And putting yourself out there while discovering this new you is a whole challenge in and of itself.
But learning a new skill set on top of it? Now that’s scary.
I don’t want you to fail like I did. And I can see how easy it was to fail in that position, in hindsight.
Not only did I have a brand new baby of an idea, screaming and crying its uncomfortable way into the world, but now I have to sell it? In a way that’s intentional and ethical. Using plenty of good ol’ proven copy tactics and written with my sincere voice. Yikes!
Maybe if I knew how to play the long game in marketing, I’d still be selling yoga recordings today. If I knew copywriting, I’d be able to help a lot of people through my services and knowledge. If I understood unique copywriting tactics, I’d appeal to the right audience and speak directly to their needs.
I allowed a limiting factor in my skillset to crush my entire yoga business dreams. And I’d hate to see that happen to your health and wellness business.
Learning to copywrite and understand the power of marketing has changed my business.
I now feel confident in what I offer and how I present it. It’s not only shaped my business but also made me intuitive in how I translate my passions to the world.
It gave me insight into people’s psychology and grew me as a relational business owner. If you’re like me, you aren’t here to simply sell things, you’re here to help people thrive.
And I want that for you too!
Ask yourself:
Do you have a sustainable long-term business model?
Do you have conversational copy that converts?
Are you correctly targeting your ideal audience through your approach?
Are you using SEO to your advantage?
Are you seeing what performs well and keeping it? Seeing what performs poorly and modifying it?
Copywriting may be the missing link in your business, but don’t let it be your downfall. You have a great idea. You have people who need what you’re offering. Now is not the time for failure.
Copywriting should enhance your business, not hinder it.
You could learn this new skill set all on your own. You could experiment with how certain posts/blogs/etc. perform and refine from there. But… all at the expense of your current business and valuable time.
OR (and it’s a big “or” because this option saves you time and money) you can work with someone who’s already figured it out. Someone who knows the skill set your business needs to thrive.
Don’t be a failure like I was.
